Leadership academy

We provide comprehensive support to aspiring school leaders, addressing the shortage of leaders and strengthening the management and leadership competences of existing leaders. We bring together the community of school leaders and promote professional collaboration between schools.

Goal

Help is especially needed at the beginning! We bring together aspiring leaders in a network and give them the opportunity to consult with mentors - experienced leaders from other Vilnius schools.

Description

The programme activities include a series of training sessions and mentoring sessions for new managers and mentors. For mentors, it is an opportunity to develop their skills, share good practices, support their new colleagues, and establish cooperation. It will include a training cycle for new school leaders, coordination of the mentor network and reflective training for trained mentors.

The programme will result in the acquisition of competences for effective leadership of pre-school and general education institutions by novice managers, increased cooperation between managers and the sharing of good practices.

Achievements in 2024

In 2024, 18 newly appointed managers have completed the mentoring programme and 2 more have started.

7 newly appointed managers have completed their in-service training programme and 14 more newly appointed managers have started in autumn 2024.

Goal

Description

Seminars, topical consultations and events to address the needs of heads of general education establishments and pre-school managers.

Achievements in 2024

3 annual CEO Forums were held, attended by around 230 heads of educational institutions in Vilnius City.
The forums covered topics such as educational effectiveness, school evaluation, leadership, inclusive education, communication with the community.

A 5-day educational programme for pre-school heads in Finland and Estonia was organised, attended by 50 heads of educational institutions in Vilnius City.

Academy of Deputies
Academy of Deputies

Goal

To establish and operationalize a sustainable system of competency development and professional networking for deputy head teachers of general education and pre-school institutions in Vilnius City.

Description

The aim of the Deputy Academy for Schools and Kindergartens is to organise a series of trainings for deputy head teachers in the fields of management, psychology and education, which will allow them to improve their professional competences in the areas of motivation, research competences, and modelling of the educational process, creating a space for joint discussions through the exchange of information and the sharing of good practices.

Achievements in 2024

The training programme for new Vice-Principals "Leading Others: Challenges and Opportunities" for the period 2023-2024 involved 24 newly appointed Vice-Principals, 11 from general education schools and 13 from pre-primary schools.

The programme was delivered by experts in education and management theory from various Lithuanian universities, as well as by practising deputy head teachers.

Over the course of almost the entire academic year, 40 academic hours were dedicated to classroom training and 20 academic hours to the homework assignment of completing a short-term leadership challenge.

In autumn 2024, a new cohort of 36 Vice-Principals started the programme. 

Deputy Directors for Economic Affairs have been learning about the specificities of public procurement. 123 Deputy Directors for Economic Affairs attended the workshops. 

A meeting was organised for the Vice-Principals for Education of general education schools with the responsible officials of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport.

Leadership training
Leadership training

Goal

Education needs leaders - whether they are teachers or managers. We empower current and future leaders, deputies and enterprising teachers by inviting them to complete a Masters in Educational Leadership.

Description

The programme strengthens the management and leadership competences of managers and enterprising education staff in Vilnius City educational institutions through a formal study programme.

Achievements 2023

22 students graduated this year. A further 20 students are expected to graduate in early 2024.
In total, Vilnius City has already invested in 106 leaders over three years.

A management capacity building programme (60 academic hours) for teachers with no management experience has been implemented. 18 participants completed the programme.
